Rafael Marks is a principal at Perkins&Will’s London Studio. He has over 30 years experience working both in the UK and abroad on a diverse portfolio of award-winning healthcare and education projects. From small nurseries to large mixed-use health, research and education buildings on complex sites, he has a wealth of experience in navigating complex briefs and sites to create long-lasting, sustainable solutions.

In his early days as an architect, he worked in East and Southern Africa, working on a range of projects from urban conservation for the Aga Khan Foundation in Zanibar to community projects in post-apartheid Cape Town. In 2013, through the architectural charity Article 25, he worked on a reconstruction community project in post-earthquake Haiti.

Passionate about widening participation and diversity in the architectural profession, he is a regular tutor at the London School of Architecture, each year leading a Design Think Tank that explores critical issues affecting London and its communities. He has also taught at the University of Cape Town and London Metropolitan University.
