Johan Carlsson is the principal founder of the architecture and design studio JAC Studios based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Johan studied Architecture at The Architectural Association and completed his MA in Furniture and Interior Architecture at the Danish School of Design. With a range of public and private projects, the work of Johan explores the field of interiority and exhibition design. Originally with a background in performative art, Johan has emphasis of storytelling and the work strives to promote an innovative approach to the way design is curated and imagined. Johan’s work stems from a focus on hand-craft and understanding of how things are made and produced, celebrating the interrelationship between art, crafts and technology. JAC Studios’ notable projects include the Swedish Embassy in Washington, UNESCO Icefjord Centre in Greenland, Technicians at The Science Museum in London , UK. and the awarded Yumin Art Nouveau Collection Jeju, South Korea. Designs by Johan have earned awards from the DanishArtsCouncil, The Nordic light award, German design award and the INSIDE Festival. Johan is governor of the Rungstedlund Foundation, the home of Karen Blixen, appointed judge at The World Architecture Festival and member of the Danish Art Association. Beyond his practice, Johan has been professor at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and publisher of the architectural ‘Dear’ publication.
