Since founding AKT II with partners in 1995, Albert Williamson-Taylor, as the design director, incorporates his passion for cutting-edge technology into the practice’s projects throughout the UK and overseas. Albert believes that sustainable engineering stems from a progressive attitude towards design. He enjoys working with design teams to realise project visions using the best engineering techniques, and he boasts a portfolio of many prominent structures, including Zaha Hadid’s Generali Tower in Milan, the Central Bank of Iraq in Baghdad, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners’ LSE Centre Building in London, AHMM’s Villagio Vista in Accra, the tallest building in Ghana, Google’s new HQs in San Francisco and London, Norman Foster’s Bloomberg’s European HQ in the City of London, the new London Google HQ at King’s Cross and Heatherwick Studio’s Seed Cathedral in Shanghai and Vessel in New York. His team is presently working with Sir David Adjaye on the National Cathedral in Ghana. He also led the engineering team on the early development of Sheik Zayed’s National Museum in Abu Dhabi with Foster + Partners and is currently involved in a number of projects in the Middle East. Albert also drives the technical direction and shapes the development of AKT II’s computational research, pushing the boundaries of structural design. He is prolific in his approach to create sustainable valued structures in the UK and abroad. Albert is a Fellow of the Engineering Institution and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
