Simon Allford is a founding director of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris – A practice of 500 people with offices in London, Bristol, OKC, Madrid and Sydney. Simon leads a studio of two hundred architects working around the world on the design and construction of large scale complex Urban projects. These projects reflect his belief that outstanding architecture – of Universal Use – must be generous enough to accommodate different uses to those that called it into being. It can do this through reflecting the life and history of the city into which it situates itself. We are now building ‘forever architecture’ appropriate to the design of a Low Carbon future and to serve this future well our architecture must also offer an extraordinary and delightful backdrop to the theatre of everyday life.
Simon is a frequent teacher, judge of major awards and competitions, a writer, and critic. He has been a visiting professor at numerous schools including The Bartlett, UCL and the GSD Harvard. Currently he is a Trustee of the London School of Architecture, The Grimshaw Foundation and Chickenshed Theatres Trust. Simon is a former chair of the Architecture Foundation and is Immediate Past President of RIBA where he initiated the House of Architecture Project. Simon is now project Champion for the House of Architecture at 66 Portland Place, the Museum of Architecture (the sister project) and Chair of the RIBA Fundraising Board for ‘RIBA 200’.
Simon lives in Marylebone with his wife Fiona and three daughters – who like him are long suffering Sheffield Wednesday fans!
