Raymond Yap is a Singapore-based artist and educator. He was invited as a judge for the Best Use of Colour category at the World Architecture Festival in 2023 and 2024, reflecting his expertise in colour and visual perception within contemporary practice.
He completed his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools, London (2001), and his undergraduate degree at Wimbledon College of Art (1998). His practice has been recognised with awards including the Selina Chenevière Fellowship (Major Award in Painting), the Fenton Art Trust Prize, and the David Murray Travel Scholarship.
Since beginning his artistic practice in 1994, he has exhibited internationally across Singapore, London, Kuala Lumpur, the United States, and Indonesia. His recent solo exhibition, Primordial Patterns, was presented at Art Porters Gallery, Singapore, in 2023.
Working primarily in process-based abstraction, his practice explores repetition, layering, and material experimentation through techniques such as monoprinting, collage, stencilling, masking, and decalcomania, generating visual rhythms that engage ideas of symmetry, asymmetry, and spatial infinity.
He is currently a full-time Fine Art lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, with over 19 years of experience in art education.
