Over the course of his 40-year career, Ken Shuttleworth has worked on numerous groundbreaking architectural landmarks, earning the nickname “Ken the Pen” for his fluid draftsmanship. In 2004, Ken founded Make Architects, an award-winning employee-owned practice with studios in London, Sydney and Hong Kong. Prior to this he built up a remarkable portfolio of experience as a partner at Foster + Partners. Ken oversees the design development of every scheme at Make and acts as a guardian to its 150-strong staff. Among the practice’s recently completed schemes are a five-star hotel in Chengdu, a new student amenities building at the University of Nottingham and a flagship office scheme for The Crown Estate in Westminster. Projects currently on site include new residential developments in Hong Kong and Mumbai, the redevelopment of a key transport hub in Sydney, and two major mixed use schemes in London’s West End. Ken is Past President of the British Council for Offices, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a member of the UK Government Advisory Group on Professional and Business Services. In 2013 he set up the Future Spaces Foundation to advance research and debate about the spaces we live in.
