At the easternmost edge of PortMiami, MSC Cruises’ new terminal—designed by Arquitectonica in collaboration with Fincantieri Infrastructure—now stands as the largest cruise terminal in the world. The four-story, 492,000-square-foot facility maximizes a compact footprint with a layered approach to movement. Embarkation and debarkation are vertically organized, allowing both processes to occur simultaneously with minimal overlap or delay. This logic of flow is expressed in the building’s form—a dynamic, linear structure that mirrors the directionality of ships and passengers alike.
Meet the tour guide:
This tour will be hosted by Alejandro Gonzalez, AIA, LEED AP, Design Principal at Arquitectonica who leads the firm’s Ports and Maritime Group. With over two decades of global experience, he has designed landmark cruise terminals including MSC Cruises’ PortMiami terminal, the largest in North America, recognized for its innovation, efficiency, and sustainable design.

Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) offers 200,000 square feet of programmable space for the display of works of art, educational activities, relaxation and dining.
Herzog & de Meuron’s design for PAMM is highly responsive to the city’s climate and the needs of a young, rising art museum. The three-story building sits upon an elevated platform and below a canopy, both of which extend far beyond the museum’s walls, creating a shaded veranda and plazas. Working with local and international landscape designers and horticulturists, the architects use this space to “bring the park into the museum” in new and innovative ways.
Meet the tour guide:
This tour will be led by Jack Brough, an Associate at Herzog & de Meuron who was heavily involved in monitoring the construction of the new PAMM building. Jack began his collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron in New York in 2009. He has contributed to a number of significant cultural, institutional, and hospitality projects in North America, such as the Parrish Art Museum and 215 Chrystie. In 2011, he moved to Miami to monitor construction of the Pérez Art Museum, focusing on the execution of its exposed concrete structure. After returning to New York from 2013 to 2016 for the design and realization of 215 Chrystie, he relocated to Basel to lead the Powerhouse Arts team – eventually seeing the project through to completion on site. In 2021, he returned to Basel to serve as project manager for the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Since 2023, he has been living in Memphis – his hometown – to oversee the realization of the new museum.
